How can I help you?

I offer short-term and long-term therapy to individuals
and couples. I have provided therapeutic support to individuals for a wide range of psychological issues.

The issues I can help with include:

Anxiety

Depression

OCD

Substance misuse and recovery

Trauma and bereavement counselling

Couples therapy

Relationships form an integral part of our lives. A satisfying intimate relationship is good for our emotional and physical well-being. Managing conflict within a relationship can be challenging. Couple therapy can highlight to couples and individuals why they behave in certain ways. Learning to manage conflict can be an opportunity for growth and change, leading to a more fulfilling and satisfying relationships with self and others.

Pre-Marriage Counselling

When entering something as important as marriage or civil partnership, the need to prepare for the emotional difficulties that are inevitable in a long-term union with another can be overlooked. Through my work with couples in crisis it's becoming more and more apparent that learning relationship skills at the start of the journey can save a great deal of pain, upset and distress further down the road.

My Specialist Areas

Over the years I have developed my skills to help clients deal with a range of some of the  most complex and often misunderstood of life issues.

Sexual addiction and compulsivity

There is growing evidence to suggest that addiction is linked to Adverse Childhood experiences (ACE’s) and can overlooked by both the individuals and their families who also suffer from the addiction.

Drug and alcohol addiction

I have worked in numerous residential units with individuals seeking intensive addiction treatment. I run psycho-educational groups and group therapy, as well as offering individual therapy both for clients and their family members – who may also be struggling with the effects of drug addiction, relapse and recovery.

Adult survivors of childhood abuse

For many years I have provided counselling to adult survivors of childhood abuse. These difficulties often continue into adulthood, affecting future relationships with partners, families, and friends. The emotional pain suffered often leads to difficulties with work, and/or many psychological disorders.

How much will it cost?

Counselling requires commitment both by the client and the counsellor. No two clients are counselled in the same way, I will tailor our sessions to match your personal circumstances.

The number of sessions you need will be agreed between us and reviewed regularly.

Our first appointment can be a 50-minute introductory session to see if we can work together. Please feel free to contact me to request more information on fees.

I offer reduced rates for students and those on low income. Price on application.

Client Testimonials

We'd been struggling as a couple for a long time and during the Covid lock- down things escalated. Seeking help, we contacted JDJ for online therapy. Through regular sessions we have been able to openly discuss and address issues in our relationship from the comfort and safety of our own home. Even though we are using a webcam to communicate,  JDJ is able to read our body language, focus on us individually and provide therapy that has re-awoken our relationship for the better.

I felt alone, like no one was listening to me, us, and that made me feel despair. Counselling helped me understand my issues and helped me build my confidence to tackle to issues head on. After the first session it was like a wave of relief and I could see a light at the end of the tunnel. JDJ worked with me creatively, with cards and homework such as CBT tasks. It was fun most of the time and it wasn’t how I imagined Counselling to be.

My son’s addiction became so severe that we thought we were going to lose him. However, he came through the other end and is now back in work. I don’t think he would have made it if it had not gone to Counselling with JDJ. There were lots of tears and we were always fearful that it wasn’t going to work, but I suppose my son wanted it to work and Counselling worked for him.
